Toy -
IMO there are several discussions which are key to understanding whether MSFT can maintain momentum in its business (which ought to have something to do with its stock price...). Among them are:

1) What will be the dominant directory and authentication architecture evolving over the next 5 years?

2) what will emerge as the dominant development environment as cross-platform and interoperable applications begin to replace existing middleware translation mechanisms?

3) Will cluster technology, storage area networks and device-independent communication such as VI Architecture replace current SMP concepts as the basis for scaling and linking very large systems?

Is there a combination of these vectors that solves the current availability and scalability issues for NT? Absolutely. Is there a different combination that creates advantage for Microsoft's competitors and exacerbates current MSFT weaknesses? Certainly.

The decisions that MSFT makes on these issues, their ability to execute better than their competitors, or fail to do so, and the emergence of new technologies or business models which change these equations are important, possibly critical components of the future value of MSFT as an investment. Stimulating spirited debate on these topics is one of the key values of a forum like SI, IMHO.

I'm always amazed by people who don't want to be informed investors.

I know I get under the skin of many on this board (maybe because I'm breaking their idea of the perfect company),

No, because of a condescending, self-righteous and know-it-all attitude.
