ITEC 1 9/16 x 1 5/8 (PR NEWSWIRE) DJ: Microsoft Incorporates ITEC's ColorBlind Profiles in New DJ: Microsoft Incorporates ITEC's ColorBlind Profiles in New Release of Windows NT Operating System SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1998-- Microsoft's Color Technology Team Calls Colorblind "... the Most Comprehensive Color Management Tools Available Today" Imaging Technologies Corp., pioneer in the development of digital imaging solutions, today announced that Microsoft's Beta release of the new Windows(R) NT 5.0 operating system has begun shipping with ICC profiles created with ColorBlind(R) Color Management software. Microsoft(R) is using ColorBlind to build and test color profiles as well as test the ICM 2.0 features in Windows 98, and the upcoming release of Windows NT. When Windows NT 5.0 is released, it will incorporate ICM 2.0 technology. ICM profiles provide a simple method to match colors between scanners, monitors, and color printers in the network environment. "We included ColorBlind profiles because the ColorBlind software gave us the ease of use in profile creation and the quality results we needed for the Windows NT operating system," said Darryn Dieken, OS manager for Microsoft. "The ColorBlind suite of applications are the most comprehensive color management tools available today," according to Gary Starkweather, head of the Color Technology Group at Microsoft. "Other solutions provide some color tools, but the ColorBlind products are the only set that give the user a complete workflow solution." "In the past, Windows has taken a backseat to the Macintosh operating environment in the printing, graphics, and publishing markets due to its lack of integrated color management support," said Brian Bonar, chief executive officer of ITEC. " By incorporating ICC profiles and ICM 2.0 into Windows NT 5.0 and Windows 98 Microsoft vastly improves each products color functions. We expect that the trend toward expanded use of the Windows operating systems in the color graphics industry should create market opportunities for ColorBlind." More-Microsoft's newest releases of the Windows operating systems incorporate ICM 2.0 (Image Color Matching), and internationally accepted ICC (International Color Consortium) color profiles to improve the operating system's ability to support higher levels of color management. Color management automates the color workflow process making it possible to display and reproduce colors reliably across a mix of input and output devices from different vendors. ITEC's ColorBlind(R) Color Management software is a suite of applications, utilities, and tools that allows users to precisely profile each device in the color workflow including scanners, monitors, digital cameras, printers, and other specialized digital color input and output devices. Devices are profiled in conformance with the ICC standards. Once profiled, ColorBlind balances these profiles to produce accurate, and consistent color rendering from input to output. "ITEC will continue to work with Microsoft to embed color management into their operating systems," says Franz Herbert, Chief Technical Officer at ITEC's Software Products Division. "Working with Microsoft keeps us in tune with mass market demands." ColorBlind is sold as a stand-alone application or licensed by OEM's for resale in conjunction with peripherals. 'ColorBlind Aware' is being recognized as an industry standard for color accuracy as printer scanner and monitor manufacturers integrate ColorBlind's Color Management resources into product designs.
