Dialogic Expands IP Telephony Product Line With 4-Port Analog and 60-Port CompactPCI Boards

October 28, 1998

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)
via NewsEdge Corporation -- Dialogic Offers
New Options for Scalable Internet
Telephony Systems

TECH SUMMIT 98--Dialogic Corporation
(NASDAQ:DLGC), a leading provider for
Internet Protocol (IP) telephony gateways,
today announced that it will expand its
DM3(tm) IPLink(tm) family of
standards-based IP telephony platforms
with a new four-port analog board and
single and dual span CompactPCI(R) (cPCI)
boards, which provide up to 60 ports in a
single slot. Dialogic customers will be able
to scale from four-port enterprise IP
telephony applications up to 840-port
systems in a telco environment. Currently,
the DM3 IPLink product line ranges from
eight to 30 ports per board.

Based on DM3 Architecture

The new IPLink products are based on the
Dialogic DM3 mediastream resource
architecture, which provides a hardware
foundation for the most powerful and
scalable standards-based, carrier-grade
platforms in the industry. The DM3
architecture supports a broad range of
multimedia types including speech
recognition, voice, fax, and text-to-speech.

Ideal for Enterprise Customers

The enterprise market for IP telephony
solutions primarily consists of systems with
30 or fewer ports. As companies enhance
their existing PBX infrastructure with IP
telephony systems, expandability and
scalability is important. The four-port
DM/IP040(tm) will allow OEMs to build small
initial systems which are then capable of
expanding simply by adding up to four
DM/IP040 boards per system or by moving
to higher density boards. And since the
DM/IP040 is based on the DM3 mediastream
resource architecture, current DM3-based
IPLink applications can run without any
change.

The DM/IP040 is PCI-based, supports
analog lines, and will initially be available
under the Microsoft(R) Windows NT Server.
The DM/IP040 will start at $500 per port in
single quantities (less for higher volumes)
and will be available in beta in early 1999.

Serving the Telco Market

The telco market for IP telephony solutions
demands high density, high reliability and
high serviceability. Dialogic will deliver these
features with its cPCI family of IPLink
products (the DM/IP241-T1c(tm),
DM/IP481-2T1c(tm), DM/IP301-E1c(tm),
and DM/IP601-2E1c(tm)). These products
include either a single or dual T-1 or E-1
span card, on a single board, in a single
slot, allowing very high densities per
chassis. With the ability to put 14 boards in
a single chassis, system developers can
build an IP telephony gateway scalable up
to 840 ports. High reliability is achieved
through the hot-swappable, telco design of
the chassis and boards.

Like the DM/IP040, the cPCI family of IPLink
products are based on the DM3
architecture, allowing current DM3-based
IPLink applications to run without any
change. Initial availability will be for
Windows NT, with UNIX support available
shortly thereafter. The DM/IP241-T1c,
DM/IP481-2T1c, DM/IP301-E1c, and
DM/IP601-2E1c start at $400 per port and
will be available in the second quarter of
1999.

Scalable, Flexible Solutions

"These new boards carry out Dialogic's
commitment to continue to lead in IP
telephony," explained Larry Fromm, vice
president of New Business Development,
Dialogic Corporation. "By giving both
enterprise and telco customers these new
options, Dialogic is making it easier to build
open, scalable, and flexible IP telephony
solutions."

For enterprise and telco customers building
an IP telephony solution, the new boards
will deliver significant benefits:

-- Scalability - The Dialogic DM3 IPLink
product family enables solutions ranging
from four to 60 ports per board for maximum
expandability.

-- Lower System Cost -- The on-board
PSTN interfaces (analog on the 4-port
board, digital on the cPCI board) reduce the
number of boards in the system, saving
money.

-- Integrated Internet Fax - The IPLink
platform is the first product to support the
new ITU T.38 standard for real-time fax
over IP. The T.38 standard makes it
possible for fax machines from different
vendors to talk to each other. Support for
T.38 is offered at no extra charge on the
DM3 IPLink product family.

-- Flexibility - Like all Dialogic IPLink
products, the new boards have wide voice
coder support, selectable call-by-call
(G.723.1, G.729a, MS-GSM, G.711, and
GSM). They also give system designers the
most options for customizing their
application.

-- Investment Protection and Standards -
The IPLink family supports industry
standards like H.323 and T.38, protecting
customers' investment. The Dialogic DM3
architecture also makes it easy to upgrade
current boards to new software without
having to purchase and install a new board.
Dialogic has also demonstrated support for
TAPI 2.1 and will be providing production
TAPI 2.1 and 3.0 support in the future.

Industry Reactions

Microsoft: "Microsoft is pleased with
Dialogic's continuing commitment to
Windows NT Server as a platform for high
availability and high density solutions," said
Toby Nixon, senior business development
manager for Microsoft's Internet Customer
Unit. "By using Windows NT Server and
Dialogic IPLink products, Internet telephony
developers will be able to meet the
demands of today's network service
providers for open, scalable and flexible
standards-based solutions."

StarVox: "The DM/IP040 product meets our
customers' needs," said Richard Barry,
president and CEO of StarVox. "Most of our
corporate customers who want to use IP
telephony to connect to their branch
offices have a wide variety of branch office
sizes. Some of their smaller branch offices
only require four analog lines, so we are
now able to offer a fully scalable gateway
solution to meet the individual needs of all
the branch offices."

VocalTec: "By working with companies such
as Dialogic, VocalTec is bringing to market
full system IP telephony solutions including
gateways, gatekeepers, and network
managers that meet carriers' and
corporations' demands for greater
scalability, lower system costs and
reliability," said Dr. Elon Ganor, chairman at
VocalTec Communications. "With 60
channels in a single slot, Dialogic's cPCI
boards will provide a strong platform for
VocalTec's IP telephony global,
multi-services solutions."

NetDialogs: "We chose Dialogic and its DM3
architecture because of flexibility and
scalability," added Bala Sridhar, president
and CEO, NetDialogs. "Our clients and
customers range from two-person
e-commerce agencies to large carriers and
service providers. This announcement is
fully consistent with the span of our
customer base. It again supports the
reason for our picking the Dialogic platform."
