(Bear with me a moment...)

There won't be any significant OEM announcements for Banshee.

There - I said it. And you know what? I feel better. "There won't be any significant OEM announcements for Banshee." Whew, that's a relief. (Screaming) "There won't be any significant OEM announcements for Banshee!"

OK, now let me explain...

Anyone who's read this thread for awhile knows that I am a TDFX shareholder and long-time bull. Guess what? Even assuming that the above affirmation is true, I _still_ am. Even though Ballard and Co. have been stringing this Banshee OEM announcement deal out for 4 months(!) now, I still am. Even though phrases like "Soon", "A couple of weeks", and "any day now" have lost meaning for me, I am _still_ bullish on this company.

Why? Because I don't care about Banshee. Initially, I didn't care about it at all, but I must admit that the hype, rumors and innuendo had gotten my hopes up for some quick improvements in the stock price. Well, my affirmation above is my way of saying "I'm over that."

The _only_ reason in my mind to invest(!) in TDFX these days is because you believe that they are further down the road towards the next generation video chip than anyone else. They've had a separate development team at work on "Rampage" (or whatever it's called) for several months now and I'm sure the lessons from Banshee's failures in the OEM space will only serve to improve Rampage even more. The competition is currently exhausted after sprinting hard for 6 months to "catch up" with Voodoo2.

However, this also means another 4-6 months of waiting with probably minimal changes in the stock price. In other words, IMO, this is now a stock for day-traders and long-term investors, period.

Can you deal with that? I can. That's the long-term, big-picture outlook on things right now. And my question to you is: "What if Chip's Affirmation(tm) is right?"

I have no idea where you found the passage you posted. It wasn't in the two links you put up.

For those who can't read French, the quote is a discussion of ATI Rage 128 competition:

TNT - The best right now (from PII 300 plus), but not compatable with socket 7 and some slot 1 cards. The only comparable chip to the 128.

Banshee - Good card, but display quality not in the same range

Permedia3 - Great product but limited at 16 megs and one of our objectives is to infiltrate to professional card market.

RRedline - not ready until May 1999, not enough invested in it yet

Savage 3d - too many problems, no alpha channel in 24 bits

Glaze - Only 7 guys developing plus their method is too exensive to make

Matrox - G200 isn't in the same league.

<ot> I have a French question for you, how do you pronounce "guillemot". My guesses are guy - mot (that's the French Guy or gi and the mot is like 'mo money'). Or is it guy - le - mot? Or something else?
