The "expectation" that is referred to is that of the anal - ists who do the expecting and MSFT beats them every time in good times and in bad. MSFT has 17 billion in cash and no debt where is the need for culinary talent in presenting their financials.

The company attributed its earnings rise to strong demand for
Windows 98 in Japan and Europe and strong sales of Windows NT
Workstation, although it said revenue growth for Office 97 has
slowed. Since Windows 98 was launched June 25, more than 10
million customers have bought either a Windows 98 retail
upgrade or a new Windows 98-based PC, according to Microsoft.

I sense that you would like to pass laws outlawing profits. Go to the NSCP board to promote that idea.
