I am not kidding. People who invested in stock market kept abreast of the market on a regular basis and several took extra effort to go the places where these machines were available and watched ("in amazement," per Fred Schwed) their investments grow in size. The key is, "those who are invested in the market." At the same token, today most people watch their holdings at least daily. If one is an addict (like us) he/she stays glued to the internet/CNBS or whatever. That would be the 20's equivalent of making an effort to go a local star hotel where ticker tape machine was available. But, the similarity is that both now and then people made it a point to keep informed on a regular basis.
