<NT is becoming a networking standard, if it's not already. I believe Dell will someday become a standard too, ie: DellWare> Why the hell is NT becoming a networking standard? In turns of scalability, robustness, open architecture, can NT really compete with Linux, Solaris? I knew couple NT developers in MSFT, and they are telling me that NT source code is approaching 60 million lines. I can build the micro kernel with a elegant QNX UNIX design for about 50000 lines of code, and the executable is only 20K, I am talking about a full fledge OS. How can you manage a 60 Million lines of source code even before you release the next version? Don't believe the hype, NT is a crappy system, they can't humanly possible to manage a 60 million line source code product. They try to emulate the design of UNIX, but they fail. Every software product has a life cycle. When they are building the NT OS base on sucky design in the beginning, they are doom to fail. SUN and its Java base virtual machines, servers will be the future. Only advantage that MSFT has is there are enormous amount of app developers writing apps for the Windows. If these apps get ported to UNIX, SUNW will double its installation base.
