James: Try selling American cars in Japan...closed doors aren't the only way to control entry to a market, bureaucratic mazes can work equally well. Free trade advocacy is one thing we can agree on (I'm sure there are many more things), but the economies of the SEAN and Japanese markets don't foster free trade...it's a one-way street for them, unless it's something they can't effectively get in their own back yard...then they'll create a detour to facilitate the targeted imports.
