Starter Kits Provide the Critical Components for FC-AL

COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Emulex Corporation
(NASDAQ:EMLX), an industry leader in fibre channel technology and products,
announced today the availability of a Fibre Channel DHub(TM) Starter Kit which
provides the key components necessary to set up and evaluate fibre channel
technology as the solution for server-to-storage area networking applications
such as real time disaster recovery, LAN-free backup, and data warehousing.
"Fibre Channel provides significant performance increases over today's
legacy server and storage implementations. Arbitrated loop topology is one of
the most cost effective fibre channel solution for emerging storage networking
applications," stated Mike Kane, marketing director for Emulex. "Emulex's new
industry leading digital re-timing hub is a revolutionary new tool which
enables loop integrity and stability, seamless growth and enhanced
manageability for OEMs, systems integrators, and IT administrators of fibre
channel systems," Kane added.
"The Emulex LH5000 Fibre Channel Hub is the industry's first truly digital
re-timing hub and provides significant enhancements in loop management by
offering the system administrator three management interfaces as standard
features. These interfaces are an industry standard SNMP agent, an embedded
web server, and a command line interface via RS232 or telnet console. Using
the DHub as a key element in the SAN eliminates signal jitter and invalid
transmissions enabling loop integrity and stability," stated Kirk Roller, vice
president of sales for Emulex. "The DHub starter kit provides users with a
simple and cost effective way to test fibre channel in their individual
application," he continued.
The promotional kits include one Emulex DHub (copper or GBIC) and two of
Emulex's LP7000E PCI fibre channel host bus adapters. The full duplex gigabit
LP7000E is the fibre channel adapter of choice for many of the leading server
and storage OEMs due to its industry leading I/O performance over long
distances; its direct fabric and FL port capabilities for maximum performance
in fabric/switch environments; and, its multi-protocol operation in various
operating environments.
The FCLOOP+/C is the model for the starter kit for copper interconnections
and includes one 10-port copper DHub (LH5010) and two (2) LP7000E-T1 host bus
adapters. The FCLOOP+/O is the kit for optical configurations which consists
of the LH5000 DHub, an 8-port GBIC version with 2 fixed copper ports, two (2)
multi-mode shortwave GBICs, and two (2) LP7000E-N1 host bus adapters.
A special direct factory pricing promotion is available on the evaluation
kits until December 31, 1998. Both kits have been reduced by more than 50%
from the standard list prices if the adapters and DHub were purchased
separately. The FCLOOP+/C, copper kit, is priced at $2495.00US and the
FCLOOP+/O, optical kit, is priced at $3495.00US. Since this is a special
promotion for enabling evaluation, certain restrictions apply such as only one
kit per company per site location for end-users and resellers.
