Groupe Bull Migrates to Emulex LP7000E Fibre Channel PCI Host Adapter

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 21, 1998--Emulex Corp. (Nasdaq:EMLX), a leader in fibre channel products and technology, and Groupe Bull, Louveciennes, France, Wednesday announced that Bull has selected and qualified the Emulex LightPulse(TM) LP7000E PCI host adapter as the fibre channel solution Bull will offer with their Escala servers.

The LP7000E adapter is designed for optimizing full duplex throughput, distance and reliability for those large and diverse enterprise applications requiring gigabit connectivity.

Today, Bull is a leading provider of fibre channel technology on AIX-based systems for commercial customers running mission critical UNIX applications across the network. Bull's high-performance disaster recovery, OLTP and data mining solutions address the need for physical security of high-availability enterprise applications.

Available for immediate delivery, Bull's recently announced Escala AIX-based Servers product line (EPC1200, EPC400 and T series) integrates Emulex's LightPulse LP7000E PCI host adapters for high-availability, full duplex gigabit fibre channel connectivity. This provides access to Disk Array Systems with terabyte (Tbyte) capacity at a distance of up to 10 kilometers and at very high performance levels of 100 Mbytes/sec.

"We have validated very large customer configurations using fibre channel in our laboratories. Using the enhanced Emulex LP7000E PCI host adapters, real 10-kilometer full duplex connections between Escala AIX-based systems and leading storage vendors' disk subsystems have been verified. Significant improvement in terms of I/O performance and distance over standard SCSI-based connections are evident with these fibre channel solutions," stated Christian Guerin, R&D director, XS Business Unit for Bull.

"Bull is an industry leader in AIX and systems integration and we are pleased that Bull has again selected the Emulex LightPulse PCI host adapters for their Escala SMP systems," said Mike Kane, director of marketing for Emulex.

"As the demand for fibre channel products accelerates in Europe over the next several quarters, Bull will play a key role in the integration of fibre channel solutions," added Alan Wallman, managing director for Emulex in Europe.

Fibre Channel Association to Present Storage Area Networking Solutions at Networld Interop

Heterogeneous SAN Demonstrations to Advance Fibre Channel Solutions

NETWORLD+INTEROP, ATLANTA, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- When the doors open today at Networld+Interop, savvy show attendees will beeline to the Fibre Cafe for a cappuccino and a presentation on Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks, the application delivering high speed access to stored data. The Fibre Cafe is sponsored by Fibre Channel Association members Ancor Communications, ATTO Technology, Emulex, Intelliguard, QLogic and Vixel.

Following the presentation, attendees will receive a passport directing them to each of the 17 FCA member companies exhibiting at the show, where they can see the promise of Fibre Channel coming to fruition in heterogeneous SANs.

One member company, Ancor Communications, is unveiling new product. Ancor Communications will introduce its GigWorks MKII 8-port Fibre Channel switch as part of an NT SAN. At $1,250 per port, the MKII-8 brings new affordability to SAN switches. Ancor also is demonstrating management features via an easy-to-use GUI and self-configuring ports.

LSI Logic Storage Systems is featuring its MetaStor S-Class storage systems. With Fibre Channel performance, the new storage management features in its SYMplicity Storage Manager software offer current solutions to customers in the process of implementing SANs. In addition, LSI Logic's new Multi-Pathing Architecture doubles performance over earlier Fibre Channel implementations. All of these features are built upon a modular family of enterprise storage systems that provide scalable performance, capacity, and availability.

Visitors to the 17 FCA passport destinations will learn about the breadth of Fibre Channel products available and how Fibre Channel vendors are advancing interoperability among products in order to meet the requirements of end users.
