>>There is a sorry past where a previous CFO (Thoman) put the stock into a 12 month
tailspin by not explaining IBM's outlook properly <<

Was that when they cut the dividend?

JR, I obviously have no idea what Gerstner will say but what was left
out of the conference call and all the news releases that needs to be
covered now? Gerstner is not a publicity hound. He refuses nine of
ten requests for public appearances and interviews, maybe more. After
the market a few days after the stock settles down at these new high
levels? IBM cautioned about the outlook yet analysts raised
estimates for the upcoming quarter and share price objectives. Y2K
never came up. 1999 is going to see a huge bubble-up in the first
half and then a potentially radical drop as data centers freeze for
Y2K stabilization. The recently enacted legislation laid the frame
work for these discussions. All the positive spin IBM ever wanted
from the 3Q earnings came true. Why the need to go on CNBC after the
close now? Anyone else have any thoughts on this?
