Wildstar, I certainly see eye-to-eye with you about the characteristics and the importance of civil society. But why do you think that civil society is on the decline? (I presume you mean in this country.)

I think it could be argued that although the role of some institutions (e.g., trade unions) is receding, the activity of newer types of associations (e.g., environmmental groups) has been increasing...

In any event, I would like to hear more of your thinking on this point.

And no, I have not read any Robert Putnam. Thanks for the tip. I'll look him up. :-)
