Eric,
this is something else I didn't know (imagine that!). However, Watley used to display the Island "book", but, no more, as they say it "overloaded" the system, displaying all that "extra" information.

Thanks for the confirmation. I just filled an order outside the inside via ISLD so I knew it worked--and fast! My hunch is that you could always fill with ISLD outside the inside on stocks with reasonable volume--which is the only time you'd need to. I got into it trading Dell where you might have to go one or ticks above the inside ask to get filled.

Of course, the solution to the whole cross/lock problem with ISLD is to get a sharper insight as to the bottom on a dip you are trying to buy. If you hit the stall, you can buy all you want if you move really fast. Hesitation is what gets you into cross/lock kills. You let the other guys move first and they will close you out.
