Siemens Enters CDMA Race With Introduction of If
Transmitter Chip for North American Wireless
Communications Systems

CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 20, 1998--Siemens Microelectronics
Inc. has entered the Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) market with the introduction of two RF ICs for the fast growing
IS-95 and JSTD-008 digital wireless standards.

The new transmitter (called the PMB 5620) and receiver (the PMB 5640) devices are designed for use in CDMA/FM cellular
phone systems, CDMA Personal Communications Services (PCS) systems and cordless telephones.

In 1997, CDMA telephone equipment accounted for only about three percent of the cellular phone equipment used worldwide.
The market is growing rapidly, however, and CDMA standard phones are expected to account for 25 to 35 percent of the
market by the year 2000.

Siemens PMB 5620 transmitter and PMB 5640 receiver devices feature a fully-integrated quadrature modulator/demodulator,
an integrated AGC amp with 105dB gain range and a VCO with external tuning circuit that can also be used a buffer for
external VCO. The device also has CDMA/FM mode switching, an IF frequency range of 40 to 300 MHz, stand-by modes
and runs on a supply voltage of 2.7 to 4.5-volts. Both devices ship in a P-TSSOP-28 package.

The new CDMA chips are available now in sample quantities. Volume shipments are expected to be available in the third
quarter of 1999.
