Douglas Casey, writing in the Oct. 1, 1998 edition of his International
Speculator, says Bema Gold is a hold at $2.20. Mr. Casey recommended Bema
at $4.85 in March 1996, and watched while it soared to its all-time high of
$12.75 on Aug. 16, 1996. In the current report, Mr. Casey notes that one of
Bema's new areas of interest is Russia, where it has acquired Arian
Resources in a one Bema for 3.3 Arian share swap. Arian owns 79 per cent of
the Julietta deposit, containing 1.14 million tonnes at almost an
ounce-per-tonne gold equivalent. While small, the deposit is so rich it
will not require high capital costs, Mr. Casey says. The bottom line is,
however, that at present gold prices, the mine is not profitable.
