as with everything
it depends on your timing and what you paid and your strike and your expectations and when you bought and what you were doing with your strategy

AGAIN

for the most part
it DID NOT WORK for a RUN UP TO EARNINGS....

as it has in the past with Dell....

if you are expecting to do a play on the earnings announcement then you buy at a different time...

If you believe in the run up to earnings..buy your calls now..give me the date you do it...strike and price you paid... so everyone can watch what happens to the calls...and we will see what would happen if you buy them today versus buying them the day before earnings...
or if you are not comfortable posting your trades..and some people aren't...post an example of something you would buy today..and follow it with updates..because I am sure there are people on this thread that would like to know more about options...

the only way people can learn about options is to really watch what happens in reality to the price of that option

if you dont believe in a run up to earnings THEN WAIT for your play

Bob,

Of course, you are correct. As I recall, DELL did run up at first but when the split was not announced some of the split players dumped the stock. Of course, when the earning were announced and then the split DELL began its climb. So clearly the stock price is affected by the news events that happen around earnings time.

The effects of such news events are expressed despite any weakness in the stock due to players awaiting the news events.
Such weaknesses of course do show up in the charts. The charts are a reflection of the past not the future.

We should see a further rise in DELL after the IDC and Dataquest data is reported early next week.
