Sorry to hear what they did re: your account. Unfortunately, (hindsight being 20/20), don't rely on the brokers to protect your account -- you may be able to recover something if your broker records the telephone calls, but I'm really not sure what your chances are.

Here's a start, though -- you may need to wade around a bit at this site to see if it may be able to help...

It is run by the Head Trader of one of the brokerage houses. I remember him answering similar questions. He is very knowledgeable guy.
