I have heard within Novell that Dell is playing a "let get cozy" message
I have heard exactly the same thing. But NOVL has played the long game before. Getting Dell to do more positive product support and work with them in the field is probably the real goal, and Dell may go there over time. It is obvious that CPQ has managed to support both NOVL and MSFT without losing much leverage, but Dell is not CPQ.

I also understand that MSD has begun to shift away from dependence on both MSFT and Intel. He believes that Dell is getting less from their loyalty than they would get by playing the field a little more. It will probably be some time before this attitude is reflected publicly.
