Doug: the answer to why TLAB warned, then blew out numbers AGAIN :) (from transcript of CNBC interview)......

Mark: Have you also learned about managing earnings expectations? You made an announcement when was it any guess back in September, you were going to be a penny light, the stock really dove on the news, your response was we didn't think we were announcing anything of consequence there, and it was just a penny, but, you know, I assume that something was learned in that episode as well.

Well, first of all, we don't manage earnings. We do try to give people some guidance to expectations, and the announcement really was that revenue in this major product area of ours, this Titan 5500 digital cross-connect system would be a little below what most analysts were predicting. That was really the message we wanted to get across. The question was asked, what effect will this have on your bottom line? I said somewhere around a penny. And what happened really was that we had this revenue that I mentioned previously from customer service installations from an extraordinary second quarter revenue in this Titan area, and the consequence of all of that was we derived a lot more revenue and accounted for it during the third quarter than we anticipated. As I mentioned previously, it was pretty much all went to the bottom line. So we fared better than expected but had that not, had that customer service revenue not materialized the way it did, we would have come out exactly where I said.
