I don't know if you're aware of it, but MM's are required to honor their quote if someone preferences them. If they don't it's "backing away" and it is very easy to get a judgment in your favor through NASD, as it is fairly cut and dried, except in the case where there were simultaneous hits. It surprises me how many people are simply unaware that you have recourse through NASD. On less automatic type situations, I've found they are biased towards the Dealers but, if you know how to argue and persist, you will probably still win.

The rule regarding "backing away" says your broker has to contact the offending broker within 5 minutes. They either straighten it out or you call NASD.
