S&P Upgrades IBM Shares to Buy

NEW YORK, Oct. 22 (Standard & Poor's) - S&P upgraded International Business Machines (IBM) to (buy) from (accumulate).

Analyst Megan Graham-Hackett notes that IBM's price/earnings ratio has typically been in the 18-19 range, but she now believes it deserves a higher multiple due to the company's accelerating growth prospects as a unique provider of complete information technology solutions. She also notes that a greater mix of sales are now from more predictable Services & Software streams.

Graham-Hackett says her cash flow analysis indicates that IBM is at the cusp of dramatic improvement, leading to further shareholder enhancements ahead. Her 6-12 month price target for the stock is $160-165, or 22 times her $7.45 1999 EPS estimate."

Then again, what could an S & P recommendation or the 0 sell recommendations vs 12 strong buys and 9 buys, be worth, compared to the brilliant musings of Skeeter Bug and tippet?
