>>> As for the Right, we have had nothing like the Nazis, or the Action Francaise, or the Francoistas, except on a very small scale.

I have been under the impression that there are a couple of million neo-nazis, militiamen, klansmen, Aryan nations, survivalists, John Birchers and so forth in this country right now. That may only be one percent, but Hitler started with less material, didn't he? Plus the many sympathisers who are not active members, the families, and so on.

They are powerful enough. Enough so that the Republicans in congress took their side against the FBI and ATF. They are quiet now, but I expect them to come out someday.

Anybody got a firm estimate from government or 'movement' sources?

If I had to use a qualifier for the rigid left and the rigid right, I would use the term "doctrainaire" to describe those of both sides that represent the extremes. I wasn't trying to define the center since I'm well aware that the political spectrum is not composed of merely three degress, such as left, right, and center. In addition, the political center shifts as the country's demographic makeup changes.

As for the anti-semitism, both the Nazis and the Communists were anti-semitic. Both were trying to eliminate dissent that could be organized through unions, universities, churches, synogogues, etc.
