Speaking about Gateway

Analysts said sales would have been even stronger during the quarter if not for problems with component defects and shortages that stalled some shipments. ''Even with that problem, it was a better-than-expected quarter,'' said Dan Ries, an analyst at Kaufman Brothers L.P. in New York, who rates Gateway shares ''buy.'' ''It would have been a blowout'' without the component glitch, he said.

Ries expects Gateway shares to reach 65 within 12 months.
