Novell is leading Internet Wave 2. Microsoft never lead any wave, period....... The power, duration and magnitude of change during Internet Wave 2 will make Internet Wave 1 look like a joke. Directory wars will make browser wars look quaint by comparison. Microsoft WON'T be able to "pull a Netscape" on Novell during Internet Wave 2. The DOJ will be watching too closely.

DownSouth, a large number of companies are investing in NT servers for application servers and because MSFT's "300 lbs Gorrilla" marketing team has clearly had its effects. For most sites that doesnt mean that customers are abandoning Novell technology. It means that their IT shops doing what all IT shops should consider - Invest in best of breed solutions. If an NT server provides a better platform for application server than a NetWare server then they should consider it, but, since a NetWare server provides a better file/print internet infrastructure than NT, the customers should also maintain it. The best part about a mixed NetWare/NT IT Shop is that they can use NDS to manage both environment - and this is available to them NOW. Can domains manage existing NetWare administration? NO. Will Active Directory be able to providing administration on NDS? NO. So which Directory will be the more open and mature solution for the vast numbers of customers that have huge investments in existing NetWare servers and Novell technology? NDS. That is the reasoning behind my stand that Dell's announcement to migrate their head-office from NetWare to NT was purely political and design to provide a favour to MSFT. Toy
