I am sitting here with 52k modem and wonder when Pairgain will sell
US West ADSL. Worldcom goes for business only. IF I had a chance to put a receiver on my roof for a couple of hundred dollars, I'd jump at it. And so would alot of other folks. Us West ain't gonna be able to handle what I expect from my tube(s). Hence WCII is IMHO worth a gamble.

Winstar's business plan targets the underserved market first. They are not going head to head with the big boys. Before Lucent, they were fully funded through the 3rd or 4th quarter of 1999. They also have other avenues to extend funding. If necessary, they could slow down expansion to reduce costs. SG&A are extremely high under expansion. I don't think Winstar has any problem with funding for the future. Risks, however, abound with this company. There are no guarantees. Obviously, if they scaled back the expansion, this would send a negative signal.

Today if you are a business, you are paying through the nose for local access plus more for high speed links. CLECs offering fiber to your building to provide voice and data services must pay around $100,000 just to get the service to you. Winstar and Teligent with P-to-MP wireless can provide broadband connectivity to your business for around $4,000 which they finance.

The RBOCs cannot cut their prices too much or they will suffer when they need to enter other businesses to survive.

It's all about offering more for less and even without P-to-MP, Winstar is signing up customers in droves. Seems like a winner to me especially when they can put more customers on their net thereby saving money.
