scott, sorry for the confusion. i thought the concept was sufficiently simple. the bottom line is that ibm continues to net borrow money and continues to net buy stock. the debt to equity is up 80+% in 2 years. long term debt is ub half a billion.

the point of my prior post was to point out that the method of accounting doesn't matter. debt is increasing. shares are being bought back. period.

the spin part is derived from your categorizing a certain portion of debt as that makes the overall gross numbers invalid. poppycock, imho.
