"...MAJOR COMPANY/INDUSTRY NEWS: (All prices as of 10:35 a.m. ET) ** CDNOW INC. (CDNW: 9-1/4, - 3/16) and N2K INC. (NTK: 24-5/16, unchanged) will merge to form an online music retailer with a customer base of 1.2 million consumers, both Internet companies announced Friday. The merger underscores the significant growth that has characterized electronic commerce and the importance that size will play to competitors as the marketplace continues to mature. >>HoTMetaL PRO 5.0, Alpha Five and SoftQuad-Alpha synergy?

>>...if/when SoftQuad can capture* the 'essence' of
>>http://www.softquad.com/enter.html e.g. Resources..
>>they could realistically take significant share from
>>FrontPage...

sq.com should simply be the defacto business model/standard with which any/all superior internet-related/software products/websites should be compared...one would have thought/hoped? one reason for the acquisition of Alpha would have been ensuing [cross-merchandising/development/infrastructure...] synergies viz a viz HMAPPS and ONLINE merchant perhaps...

Alpha Five simply and obviously should adhere to the same business model as HoTMetaL 5.0 website i.e.

alphasoftware.com and alphasoftware.com et al should have a comprehensive [developer program, resources, training, VARs, FAQ, press, WebFiler integration, ....] exactly like sq.com one simply does not get the feeling that any synergies have been established or even recognized...that Alpha simply had a mission to jettison SoftQuad [long ago?] and does not seem to even recognize its own strengths...

alphafive.com ala sq.com is staring the Rabins right in the face...take Sach's lead...this is a bigtime [shareholder value maximization] winning internet business model...even if to position it as a divestiture...another crown-jewel business unit acquisition...

*actually should read 'effectively convey to the mass market'

IBM Acquires Web Site Development Technology from Wallop Software

"...IBM today announced that it has acquired Wallop Build-IT(b), a Web content assembly and management tool, from Wallop Software, Inc. IBM plans to incorporate Build-IT into the IBM WebSphere Studio to further enhance the Studio's capabilities.

In addition, IBM announced that it will license the Build-IT technology to NetObjects, a privately-held company partially funded by IBM. The technology will complement NetObjects' existing product family.

IBM WebSphere Studio is an integrated set of Web site development and management tools for the WebSphere Application Server family. As a result of adding the Build-IT technology to the Studio, members of Web site development teams, from graphic designers and content managers to Web-based programmers, can easily assemble and manage content in new ways to create powerful Web sites that are key to a company's success as an e-business.

''IBM will continue to strengthen the WebSphere product line to offer the most comprehensive solution for building, deploying and managing Web-based applications ranging from simple Web sites to powerful e-business solutions,'' said Paraic Sweeney, vice president, IBM Web Server Marketing. ''Our latest move enhances the WebSphere Studio and extends its open nature to help Web developers through all stages of development -- from Web site authoring, content creation and dynamic presentation to tapping into back-end systems and extending them to the Web..."
