Franz, I'm not sure what you are trying to say, but Murphy ( who is probably the most tech savvy analyst I've come across) said that computer sales had hit a temporary slowdown (although you'd never know it from watching Dell -- my comment), and now PC sales are surging for three reasons:

1. Release of Windows 98.

2. Y2K compliance issues. He pointed out that computers are being replaced at an accelerating pace as a result of this issue. He said that there is a considerable base of 386 and 486-based machines that will be replaced. I think he said 30 - 40% of all computers currently fall in this category, but I'm not certain of the number.

3. Seasonality issues. Bureauocracies in both government and corporations need to spend their money before year end or they could lose it in the next year's budget.

He said he expects another big increase in sales when the newest version of Windows NT is released.

I hope this is clear.

TTFN,
