Tench,

A little company called Motorola announced a new very fast RAM for workstation market. Based on 0.18 Cu I believe.

It was announced about a month ago, and could be the way AMD is looking.

Regards,

Kash

Tenchusatsu - Re: " First of all, I think that the AMD K7 is initially going to be targeted at high-end desktops. "

I think AMD has essentially admitted that - during the K-7 love fest at the MDR forum. The product seems like a well improved K6 but not robust enough to take on the XEONS of today, let alone the Cascades of next year.

Re: "the KNI in Tanner should be able to accelerate graphics workstation apps."

The KNI will help immensely - but the software applications and drivers need to incorporate KNI instructions and algorithms. Accordingly, there will most likely be a "transition" period as EDA or 3D design software gets ported to Tanner/NT and speed improvements are made incrementally.
