I would tend to agree with you with one exception. The major non historical event that may affect the stock markets overall could be "Y2K Phobia". The public will hear more and more FUD (fear, uncertainty and doubt) about the effects of January 1st 2000 on computers as we draw closer to the date. The generally computer naive public will be asking themselves "Do I want to have my assets residing on a magnetic surface that may not work after the New Years party?"
Although 90% of the street rumours and headlines will be will be exaggerations of the real problems, we all know that the "heard mentality" can make some affect on the markets.
Point in fact is that I have discussed this with some folks in the computer industry who plan to go to real cash just to ensure that they can really have it available. They are not concerned about the computers but about the hysteria surrounding it.
So now the question is will the FUD factor hit next year, and if so, when?
Just something to keep in mind.
14 months and 9 days and counting.

Cheers

Good Morning GZ:

I was hoping for a down morning before a resumption of the rally. We received the weekend sell-off as I had hoped. However, I may have to move quickly today. I posted a note on AMP earnings from Yahoo last night. Yahoo probably changed their board by now. However, it showed a surprising pick-up in AMP's Asian business. Just a small glimmer of improvement. The main focus of the article was about ALD's unfriendly takeover of the company.
