<ot> Dear Paul & all - I m not the keenest person in this thread on the Israel-Palestinian issues, but I do think this is one of the hot spots of the world that it is worth contemplating.

1st, I agree with you that any peace dividend at this time is short-lived. Having said that, for a humanity that is possible, a meaningful dialogue of this dispute must begin ASAP among all concerned parties. History and territories are intertwined. Should we use 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, pre 1967, post 1949, AD, or even BC, as benchmark? Obviously, one cannot foresake history, especially to an ancient civilization steeped in traditions. Having said that, only this month there is an new edition of the *Rabbinical Bible*, so I would argue habituations are to be broken for the sake of humanity that is possible.

Again, I concur with your concerns regarding islamic fanaticism. Of course, like the cycle of poverty of this country [and elsewhere,] abject poverty [culturally as well as economically] breeds extreme fanaticism. Refugee camps are a good recruiting ground for suicide bombers - these people know more about C4 than five pillars of Islam!

I share former PM Perez's concerns. Precisely it is b/c weapons of mass destruction - be they nuclear or biological - are tracking their deflationary curve, it is necessary for an opening up of the intellectual and spiritual borders - and thus physical and financial borders - in order to discourage the desperate attempt of mutual annihilation. It may sound all too idealised - and I wonder if I will see it in my lifetime, if it is at all possible - but I would argue that this is an imperative for the future of humanity possible.

best, Bosco
