Eliminating ghetto recruiting is a good preventive programme to contain the spread of fanaticism. I'd assert the payback of a peaceable world is immense. Another point is that it goes beyond materialism through, at least in the sense of material comfort. Education and the real message of religion etc are methods of deliverance. Ultimately, it appeals to the human psyche. A hopeful person will be less likely to do desperate things. This applies to the Hamas and the followers of Jim Jones alike. So, monetary support is only the 1st step.
