If you had bought $1,000 worth of Tellabs stock five years ago, it would be worth $32,568 today -- by far the best performance among Chicago-area stocks. Among the Standard & Poor's 500, only Dell Computer has a better five-year record. By comparison, $1,000 in Microsoft five years ago would be worth $7,410.

I try not to hype this company as I have been an MSFT stockholder
for almost 10 years.

Of course TLAB was trading at the upper 60s back in June, but still pretty impressive had someone sold at that price or in the 90s.
