Thread - Let me ask what are probably some dumb questions, but here goes...

1) What does EGGS sell that

a) I couldn't get from some other online retailer?
b) I couldn't buy direct from a SW/HW vendor who had a competent E commerce site of their own?
c) (if software) I couldn't download directly from the vendor at some time now or in the near future, avoiding the shrinkwrap and middlemen altogether?
d) (if hardware) Get cheaper from an online integrator, e.g. DELL?

2) Is there any evidence that EGGS management is more competent than those at DELL or the large software companies moving to online product ordering and distribution?

3) How much money can they make, really, as a clearing house for old,
antiquated, slow, cheap modems and the like?

Guess where I'm going with this is that the reason EGGS seems to want to trade at levels like $7, compared to an EBAY for example, is that they appear to be dead! Software doesn't need to sit in a box on a shelf to be sold and distributed, and hardware add ons whither in value in inventory while EGGS eats the costs.

What do I need egghead.com for at all? As a consumer, I can't think of a thing. Help me out here if I am missing something.

As a seller of products, they might be a good place to dump excess inventory or old products into the channel, but that's about it. I can make more direct.
