<Perhaps we could have some of your brilliant analysis on why Intel is slashing prices on the low end this weekend. This when they are allegedly sold out for the quarter.>

As far as I know, this is a scheduled price cut. Intel's price schedule appears on tomshardware.com . I don't know what AMD's schedule for price cuts are, but it's kind of odd to see their top of the time K6-2 350 MHz drop 66%. It's not like anyone plans for a product to drop in price so quickly.

To AMD's credit, the bin-split may be shifting to the higher speeds faster than even AMD predicted. But no speeds above 350 MHz are being sold yet, although pre-orders are being taken.

<Why doesn't Intel slow production down to the 22-24M level and leave prices same as Q3. But no, they are trying to ship as many as they can and slashing prices as they go. Sounds very disturbing to me.>

Why is this a recurring theme for AMD supporters? It's like asking the Chicago Bulls to let Michael Jordan go so that other teams will have a better chance at an NBA championship.

Intel already decided that volume and marketshare is more important than high margins. Slowing production to keep prices high might be fine for a quarter, but it's suicide in the long run. Since Intel has invested in tons of fabs and equipment, they can't just let their investments sit idle.

If AMD and its supporters have a problem with this, they shouldn't have thrown down the gauntlet in the first place.

Kash,

Intel is slashing prices on the low end this weekend. This when they are allegedly sold out for the quarter.

It is a baffling concept to cut prices on items which are already sold.
