To George Gilder: Much appreciate the clarification re Nortel and Tellabs - that you were speaking about big switches and cross connect not the companies themselves. As you probably know very well, you are respected so much for your technological prowess on ascendant technologies et al, that every statement of yours is now widely quoted and scrutinized. Your intent is clearly to call the technologies as you see them and not to try to pick companies as such. But that unfortunately is lost on my people who quote you. Again thanks. Chaz PS Speaking of quotes (and misquotes), Birck was making a general statement re Ciena IMO and not saying he or Tellabs is still interested in Ciena as a company for a merger. He has said he might try to work out a way to use Ciena's technology/products at some point in the future. All in this PS is just my memory and interpretation of course. Cheers. And thanks again. Chaz
