Storage requirements will soar because the NT Server 5.0 Registry will contain four times as much data per user as past versions. If the network deploys management features such as IntelliMirror (a scheme to automatically back up desktop data on server hard disks), you have to wonder how much hard disk space it will take. Granted, the result will be a more manageable network, but with considerably greater hardware costs.

By the way Gus, how does your LTO/SDLT change based on time to market? Do you think LTO will be late? Seemed like they may have indicated a further slip in the last SEG conference call?

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if both LTO and SDLT both come out late. What we may have here is something similar to the way that both Terastor and Quinta ended up pushing back their aggressive rollout plans. In the case of the flashy and pedigreed Terastor, it ended up significantly scaling back the specs of its mind-share-grabbing NFR drives just so it can rollout a drive six months after it promised to do so. Even Quinta with its lower key approach could not resolve what I understand to be significant signal processing and integration issues in time to meet its original schedule.
