I had not heard the KLAC in front-end rumors. Their independence of any particular tool platform seems to me to be one of their biggest advantages, for whatever that's worth. Moving into the process control and design software space (OPC, for example) seems to me more of a synergy, but I haven't heard anything specific.

For LRCX, joining up with NVLS would seem to make more sense, and they're about halfway there already with the Damascus partnership.
