It only seems hypocritical if you're confused about the concept of guilt and innocence.

Is it also hypocritical to be against slavery and in favor of locking a murderer up for life?

eddy - "Is it also hypocrisy to be against abortion and favor death penalty."

Nonsense.

The death penalty is punishment for a severely criminal act.

The murdered victim of an abortion did nothing to deserve such a penalty.

Well, I'm not so sure, but in any event I am pro-choice and pro death penalty (in the most compelling cases, anyway), so I guess I escape the label under your rules.

Do conservatives ever wonder how come a liberal state like California is heavily pro death penalty? Or do they just assume, contrary to expectation, that pro-death-penalty is what it appears in practice to be, a liberal position? Or would they buy that California is what I think it is, a state with centrist politics overall?
