Re: Palmpilot and ilk

devices that free users from desktop computers

This quote from the original article is a misleading and sensationalist statement. Handhelds are goods highly complementary to your main irons, not substitutive, as the article suggests.

I've been using a Pilot almost since day 1, having one of the original devices before USR changed the name to PalmPilot. Mine says "Pilot 5000" on the back. It's useful, but frankly, far from perfect. These devices have a long way to go before they mature into their true potential

Stitch, I ordered the backpack carrying case for my new laptop. I never like to carry something on one shoulder, but it seems that a backpack maybe less business like? I have the great advantage though that I look at my system as a traveling desktop, not really road warrior gear.

My current lap top has a shot battery. I hadn't noticed until I took it in to get my keyboard repaired. I never run it on battery.

Hate to say it, but I bet there will be a big improvement in palm devices next year. I still don't like the special script entry of the palm pilot. I want voice entry. Too bad you can't use Portico from General Magic. It's very interesting, but currently only available in the US.

Regards,

Mark
