MD says internet sales are rising:

dailynews.yahoo.com

the person that started the rumor regarding some of Dell's salespeople not meeting quotas should be examined. There will always be some of Dell's salespeople that won't meet sales quotes. some sales people are more proficient than others. in Dell, as other organizations, it's generally 25% of the sales force which account for over 75% of all sales; so while the high power hitters are coming in with bigger and bigger sales and longterm accounts (Sara Lee for example), some of the newly hired sales people who are expanding into new small business and SOHO markets are sometimes not as proficient. BUT, bottom line is that Dell's sales are increasing significantly according to them. You also have the factor of increasing internet sales which has been replacing some sales, even while large account selling has also been increasing.

Asia is running about one year behind the West and Europe now in their purchasing/upgrades due to their fallout. over 1/2 their systems, i read, are still 486 which will be looking to be replaced prior to 2000; another big market moving forward as Asia recovers. ease of use through internet purchases becomes significant.
