Kash, (or anyone), re: HDTV/PC

HDTV broadcast in selected cities is to begin in November. Cable folks are dragging their feet, so first broadcasts will be the old antenna system, strange for a new technology. The whole thing looks to be a mess, but I expect consumer demand will force the various entities to sort things out fairly quickly.

The TV guys seems to be taking it seriously, introducing product. The PC guys seem to be sitting on their hands, at least publicly. IF the PC folks have a price advantage, and if they can provide equal picture quality with an interlaced monitor, it would seem to be to their clear advantage (and my clear advantage as an Intel stockholder) to be first to market and begin to set consumer expectations as to WHAT this HD product is, a PC or a TV.

Nobody seems to be able to answer the question about quality on the PC platform. Or maybe CPQ, Dell, HWP and all are too busy bashing each other with cheaper PC's to worry about expanding the market. If so, I agree with the other posts, HDTV may well spell the beginning of the end for the consumer PC market.

It's something to think about. If PC's are not going to be a player in this market, maybe some investment dollars should go from the techs to the Sony's and other consumer electronics companies. The only thing I'm sure of is there is going to be a radical change in the marketplace in the next 5 years, and the PC guys either can't participate or don't seem to want to participate.
