Don't tell me I have invested my money in a "derivative"???

I hate to tell you this, Karin, but not only did you invest your money in a derivative, but your money itself is a derivative. Those paper bills in your wallet and the numbers on your bank statement have no value in and of themselves. Their only value is that other people will take them in trade. When the world rejected the gold standard, the entire concept of "value" changed, so now the derivative called currency only has meaning in relation to all other world derivative currencies.

If you don't want to own derivatives, you need to go to the basics -- guns, butter, and land. As for myself, I try to not think about it too much. I'm easily depressed. <VBG>
