John, UTEK ran from $12 to $19 leading up to earnings on hopes for the sector. I have to believe the earnings report was a wake up call, and I expect UTEK to give much of the run back. With new products not hitting the pipeline until mid-99, I'm not sure UTEK will be able to cash in on Semi's upgrading their plants (when they do). These guys may have missed the boat. Another poster indicated they are going to lay off an additional 20% of their work force. I have no verification of that, but with everybody being sent home a couple of days each month with no pay, it would make sense.

John, the party might be over for the semiconductor-equipment sector before it started....And UTEK may be the best short of the bunch.

Excerpt from article on the "Dataquest Semiconductor Conference" October 20, 1998 San Diego:

Dataquest's outlook for the semiconductor-equipment sector was revised downward in a presentation by analyst Clark Fuhs. In July, he reported 1999 would be a year of marginal improvement for capital spending, increasing to $33 billion from this year's expected $31 billion. But Fuhs said Monday that he now thinks capital spending will fall by 8 percent to 10 percent next year
