Ish, you might want to engage Johannes Pilch, or the ever rational Mr. K. on the subject of gays. They don't seem to much like the idea of openness and tolerance on the matter. You're tolerant, good for you. I don't claim that all Republicans believe in intolerance, for a while it looked like the Libertarian wing was taking the lead. I don't hear much about the Libertarian wing these days, and Barry Goldwater was taking a lot of heat in his final days for not backing the correct moral agenda. Speak your mind. It won't tar you as a liberal, given your views on the other matter.

Again, if you practice tolerance in your day to day life, you have my admiration. The Republican party leadership doesn't seem to favor that position these days. On this one, I think Trent Lott's the chief spokesman. There's also Dick Armey, the tolerant guy with the "Barney Fag" remark.

As for lying and finger wagging, well, my Republican governor is a good family values type, and supposedly has healthy heterosexual appetites. He's conveniently lived apart from his wife for the past 20-odd years, but they get together for photo ops. Very popular, and a much better politician than Clinton. Not much cleaner, by all indications, but there's no Richard Mellon Scaife interested in digging into his background.
