Les, I could not agree more. The power and influence of the NEA is one of the biggest problems we face as a nation in regards to future prosperity. The appallingly high literacy rate is testament to their absolutely pathetic educational methodologies. If an enemy wanted to dumb down the populace they would make sure that a larger and larger proportion of them could not read. The NEA is leading this effort! Any moron looking at the exhaustive studies knows that teaching kids to read using phonics achieves profoundly higher rates of success. Whole language, which the NEA still clings to is wrong! Our children are needlessly suffering because a bunch or egomaniacal PHD grades in the Education Department can't admit they were and are completely WRONG! We should tell congress to walk over to the HUGE department of education building and empty it, then simply lock the darn door! Then let the states run their own education systems. That would at least be a start in the right direction. Michael
