JW,

Good question! I asked this same question years ago in a telephone conversation with someone at the CBOE and I've completely spaced her answer. Seems to me like it had to do with trades made at exchanges other than Chicago. Options are traded on the American, New York, Chicago Board, Philadelphia and Pacific exchanges.

I may be all wet with this, just can't recall. Maybe someone who actually KNOWS will jump in.

Where you see price discrepancies it is because the last trade on one exchange was different (usually 1/16 pt) than the last one on another exchange. Occasionally you will see a huge difference in "last trade", but, if you look a little closer, you'll see that NO trades were made that particular day on that particular exchange.

Go back to the URL and click on "education". They are really great in this regard. You can spend hours at their site and get a terrific feel for everything they have. Lotsa free stuff, too.

Good luck, Ken
