Do they have to convert? Can they just wait? Is there any reason why they would wait? Everyone always assumes, and probably correctly, that these people only invested to chew up the company and spit it out for a short term gain leaving wreckage behind. Maybe that is so, but it's a pretty negative worst case scenario. Isn't it? Are the managers at General Magic stupid? Can't they pick money lenders for some shared vision? If they are stupid, then we better bail out now because nothing they do will be better. I spoke to with Stuart Patterson of ALTech and asked about investing before the public offering. He said, "Getting money is the least of my worries. What I need is good employees and customers willing to take risks." I don't see where ALTech is doing anything more challenging or promising than General Magic. Lets hope that these investors have a time line greater than 6 months on their investment and plans to make great gains instead of minimal profits. Has anyone made a study of the companies who hold these shares? Are they possibly hedge funds who need cash more than good investments? Do they have a track record that indicates the worst? Regards, Mark PS Everyone is so concerned that a RBOC or wireless company remarkets Portico. Why? Think about it. They give up profit and control to companies that offer nothing in return. Have you bought any great new service from your phone company lately? Do you think these people are marketing gurus? When I use Portico, it's got little to do with the phone company. I use an 877 number and the web. I can connect from land lines, wireless or the web. I have no allegiance to wireless phones, or vendors. I could change my service provider at will and never effect my Portico account. In fact, I imagine phone companies having to give me Portico to keep my business.
