Tom,

I agree with you that it is unlikely Cal or any of the other officers at Ancor would disclose information prior to a formal announcement. Given the problems of a couple of years ago with former employees they seem to be very diligent with regard to forward-looking statements. On the subject of going-forward, I believe expectation of major OEM announcements later this year and/or early next year is overly optimistic. 1999 may actually prove to be flat as many industry pros such as Gartner predict. W.L. Gore a Fibre Channel Association member based here in Wilmington expects eventual strong demand for their FC interconnection devices and fiber cabling but, not for another year or two. I'm glad to hear Ancor had a great showing at Interop Atlanta this year.

"Remember also that Cal is not counting the short position in the 7 million dollars. The short position could account for as much as 4 million dollars worth (that means about 3 million left). A case could also be made for some of the preferred holders staying long at this point. What they have left is pure profits and they may want to let it run."

Tom,

I don't know how this would work. Can you elaborate? I thought the preferred shares would have to be converted before they could be shorted and therefore would be subtracted from the total.

George D.

Tom: Thankyou! Your post puts things in a whole new light. Also, I am pleased that my prediction the mkII-8 would "steal the show" at Interop came true. wj
