Toy, First, I really resent the Fat Client comment. No, I guess I more resemble it. <G> I hope you are right. I hate Intel and Microsuck much more than IBM.

However, one caveat. IBM's great client contacts did not keep them from getting their butts kicked in pcs by Compaq, Dell and even Packard-Bell. Also, just about all of those clients laughed at IBM operating systems and jumped to Windows as soon as they upgraded. So, the Beemer's ability to influence its "partners" is limited if not non-existent.

Great post. Its worth a second read. NCs and Java are pieces of the
bracket that will assist in keeping this segment competitive. I have
a Thinkpad 760 with a software jungle next to the NC I am using for
Internet work. There is no comparison. If I have any amount of work
to do on the Internet I would never consider using AOL or one of the
other gateways I have access to but instead I will come into the
office and get on the NC. No frills computing.
